Venezuela Denounces Trump’s Airspace Threat

(MENAFN) Venezuela has forcefully dismissed US President Donald Trump’s warning about closing its airspace, describing the move as an unlawful and “colonialist” intrusion that endangers its national authority.

Trump, who alleges that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is running a drug-trafficking network, escalated his rhetoric against what he calls “narcoterrorists” on Saturday.

On his Truth Social platform, he declared: “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY.”

These remarks surfaced as the United States increased its military presence near Venezuela’s shoreline and carried out attacks on suspected cartel vessels operating in international waters.

In response, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry released a statement denouncing what it described as “the colonialist threat aimed at undermining the sovereignty of its airspace.”

According to the ministry, “This type of declaration constitutes a hostile, unilateral, and arbitrary act, incompatible with the most fundamental principles of international law,” underscoring Caracas’s view that Washington’s stance is both aggressive and unlawful.

Trump has kept open the possibility of military action inside Venezuela and hinted during his Thanksgiving address to American service members that such operations might be imminent.

Maduro has consistently rejected allegations linking him to drug cartels and cautioned the United States against igniting “a crazy war” in the region.

He has previously ordered Venezuela’s armed forces to remain on heightened alert and conducted a series of military exercises in preparation for potential escalation.
