Mexico Bolsters Security Forces Following High-Level Cartel Arrests

(MENAFN) Mexico has deployed more than 130,000 security personnel nationwide following the arrest of a senior cartel leader and his chief financial strategist, amid concerns over possible retaliatory attacks, according to Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Harfuch said the large-scale deployment was ordered to prevent coordinated responses from organized crime groups after recent high-profile arrests.

Mexican authorities on Monday detained Audias Flores Silva, also known as “El Jardinero,” along with César Alejandro N, referred to as “El Guero Conta,” who was identified as a key figure responsible for managing financial operations.

Officials said the arrests represent a significant disruption to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), a powerful criminal organization with influence extending beyond Mexico’s borders.

Harfuch stated that the detentions significantly weaken the cartel’s operational, logistical, and financial structure. He added that the deployment of forces was intended to contain any potential backlash and maintain public security across the country.

“El Jardinero” had reportedly been considered a possible successor within the CJNG leadership structure, following earlier actions against Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho,” who was reported killed by Mexican security forces in February.

Senior military and security officials joined Harfuch during the announcement, including Navy Secretary Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, and National Guard commander Guillermo Briseño Lobera.

Authorities emphasized that the coordinated response aims to stabilize security conditions and prevent any escalation following the arrests.
